Brachiosaurus was a member of the sauropodomorph family within the smaller grouping of sauropods. It also was a saurischian. It had an incredibly long neck, and its head was very small. On its head, its nostrils were above its eyes on a hump-like area. Scientists used to think that it could submerge itself completely underwater and use its high nostrils to breathe. It is known as the "arm lizard" because its forelimbs were longer in length than its hind limbs. It stood over 50 feet tall, and was as long as a tennis court. It was an herbivore that ate from the tallest leaves on the treetops. Brachiosaurus is within the larger group of saurischian dinosaurs, which included the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex and the smaller Deinonychus.
